Using open data on populations and health facilities in Haiti, I produced maps that visualize the state of access to health facilities in Haiti.
The maps are designed to draw visual attention to the low-access areas by making them the high-ink areas in the map. Lines connect a “source” population point to a health facility. In areas where there is a large star-like formation, people have to travel long distances to health facilities.
I developed this analysis using public data after seeing a similar visualization of grocery stores in the United States; the incoporation of population data is novel. It is published as a web presentation; instructions to re-create it and all code are published as a github reposiory.
